Susan creates vibrant mixed media artwork, mainly semi-abstract landscape, still life and floral pieces, making bold use of colour and pattern to create impactful and intriguing images. She likes to think of her paintings as ‘Happy Paintings’ and believes that both creating and viewing art can play a part in reducing stress and promoting well-being.
“I use mixtures of acrylic paint, inks, gouache, charcoal, oil pastels, etc. often incorporating collage. My aim is to create lively paintings that hold the gaze and attention, maybe striking a chord, evoking a thought or a memory, and that viewers will come back to with pleasure. I love experimenting with new techniques and mixing up my media to produce combinations of colour, shape, pattern and texture that are never flat or dull.”
A Worcestershire Open Studios artist, Susan has also exhibited at various local venues including Malvern Coach House Theatre and taken part in several Worcestershire-based art events. More recently she has had work selected to appear alongside paintings by some of Britain’s leading artists at the Exhibition of The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in Mall Galleries, London.
Many of Susan’s customers are individual art lovers but she also provides artwork for local business premises on a sale and commission basis employing her trademark statement ‘Happy Paintings make for Happy Workplaces’.
